Irondequoit Community Summit: One Year Later
One year ago, Irondequoit Supervisor Mary Ellen Heyman convened a Community Summit to gauge public interest in a new community center for the Town. Participants at that first Community Summit were overwhelmingly supportive of a facility that would provide increased recreational opportunities for all Town residents. Supervisor Heyman then appointed a Steering Committee, chaired by former Supervisor Bill Dillon and Ron Cooper, and three subcommittees to study potential locations, financing, and programming for a community center.
On Monday May 21, Irondequoit residents and other interested citizens will have an opportunity to get a status report on the work of the various study groups. Supervisor Heyman and the committee chairs will answer questions. The meeting will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Christ the King Parish Center, 445 Kings Highway South. The meeting is free and open to public. It will be taped for future broadcast on Irondequoit Cable Access Television.
“A lot of hard work has been done over the past year by the research committees,” said Supervisor Heyman. “It’s time for another good public conversation with residents about how we should proceed.”
